“We do not escape into philosophy, psychology, and art — we go there to restore our shattered selves into whole ones.”
This Week
My apologies for the interruption in newsletter service recently. There has been a lot of life going on, most of it good or at least not disastrous. I started a new job this past week, so thanks to everyone who was nice and got me through the past year of contracts and job searches. Here’s to a calmer December.
Hey, I have a new podcast episode out. Quiet Little Horrors has ended its first season with a discussion about Robert Eggers’s The Lighthouse. Share and enjoy. And stay tuned for season two. We have a lot of plans in the works, including more frequent episodes and a wider range of covered films. If you have any suggestions, send them to hello@quietlittlehorrors.com.

Returning to analog: typewriters, notebooks and the art of letter writing. I have a feeling I’ve linked this before, but it popped up again and it’s still good.
In other repeats, I linked this article when it was first published last April, but it seems like a good idea to point it out again: how to be alone. I appreciate how it describes being alone as a skill you can practice and strengthen. As someone who has had a lot of practice being alone, I think this is absolutely correct. It can be very useful, and often enjoyable, once you get the hang of it.
Reading/Watching/Listening
A brief list of some things I’ve enjoyed recently:
Killing Eve, Season 3
Dope, Sara Gran
Animaniacs (2020) Season 1
Read good books, watch good movies and find a way to stay warm.
